On seeing and the Theophany

Wishing all of you a very Happy New Year and a joyful Feast of the Theophany in 2018. I'm re-establishing my working pattern, now that (we hope) my daughter is in a more settled rhythm at school and very soon, the days will start to lengthen. When we have faces: St Katherine of Alexandria

Finally reached my favourite stage: meeting the Saint i am painting face to face. After a hiatus for school holidays, I had a whole day (!) to paint. As usual, life tries to intrude: chickens need feeding, cleaning, carpets need hoovering, washing piles up. All of it, apart from my feathered girls, has to wait. Sorry it's so blurred and fuzzy. A Two Palette Day

After days of glueing, sanding, gilding & drawing, finally a few consecutive hours to paint. I like a degree of order to my table, although it rarely lasts too long. Brushes are picked up, washed out, marks made on paper, drips fall. Dusk falls too soon, although now after 5pm. I adore daylight. Slow and steady

As all mothers will know, we never quite achieve as much in a week as we hope. Last week I had hoped to make major strides with the icon of the Transfiguration but everyday duties intervened. We have given the house an early spring clean, I'm preparing for a small Christmas Fair at our school and just keeping all the plates spinning sometimes uses more energy than I have. On Sunday, we finally had our house blessed - we had a few friends here, as well as Fr Raphael (Pavouris), and it felt so wonderful to see the icons of our home 'Church' being blessed.
