These last few years have been one of great change and challenges to all of us. While painting my series of trees, I wanted to show where Scotland was in 2019 – still part of Europe, one of the stars in the map and linked closely to our neighbours of land and sea.
The blue is a deep lapis, finely ground to give it extra strength and colour, while the extra colours in the background and on top of the branches are white, yellow and red, with a touch of iron black. What makes this especially pretty is the gold leaf – 23.5 carat pure gold – used to create the 28 stars which capture the light as you go past the painting. This would be perfect float mounted, to show the deckle or rough edge of the hand-made cotton paper, and framed with enough space to allow the gold to catch the eye.
The painting comes packaged in acid-free tissue and safely held between two rigid boards, so that it will be ready for mounting by the new owner.
